Honey Bees
Ages 4 years 3 months to 5+
Class Description
The Primary focus for the Honey Bee Pre-K class is to teach children to develop themselves spiritually as well as academically. We will be encouraging each child to reach these goals with the support of the “Sonlight” Christian Curriculum.
The children will do an in depth study of bible principals through a daily bible story reading and discussion, as well as a study of a different Bible hero each week. They will have daily prayer and reflection before each bible lesson to help teach them to come to God in thanks and in times of need. For Academics we will be learning Phonics, Handwriting, Math, Science, and Social Studies through a literature based program.
Each day we will be reading to the class from a collection of classic short stories and short chapter books to help build their literature awareness. Literature awareness is a key element in getting children interested in phonic, reading, writing, and academic exploration.
For Phonics we will learn letter recognition and letter sounds, as well as consonant-vowel blends, site words and early reading concepts. For handwriting we will be using the “Handwriting Without Tears” program to teach children appropriate pencil grasp, how to form each stroke of a letter and how to put those strokes together to form the actual letters of the alphabet.
For Math the class will use the Horizon Math program to learn number concepts, addition, subtraction, fractions, money concepts, time, and measurement. Through two full color math workbooks the children will learn each of these concepts and continually build on each one throughout the year to set a great foundation for future learning.
The science curriculum includes hands-on science projects and studies of environment and technology. For social studies the class will be learning to identify each state of the United States and many past leaders of our country who have made a valuable impact on our society. All of these things will be taught in an environment that encourages creativity and exploration to build social skills and self-awareness in preparation for Kindergarten.
Purpose
- To create a secure environment for Christian families to raise their children to be leaders in Christ.
- To set the foundation for learning in all areas of development, raising the standards of early education and kindergarten readiness while continuing to glorify God.
Vision
- Secure Parents
- Confident students
- Committed Teachers
Mission
- By getting to know each family on a personal level and each parent on a first name basis and openly sharing our goals for their child success in our classroom we will be able to set a foundation for good communication, ultimately allowing parents to feel secure about entrusting us with their children.
- By taking an active interest in each child and their families through good communication children begin to feel “at home” in the classroom. Implementing a daily routine and preparing in advance for each lesson will allow children to adapt quickly to the expectation of pre-k and begin developing on am optimal level. Likewise, to build a strong foundation for bible knowledge we as teachers should study in-depth to be prepared for teaching in Christ.
- To set a strong Christian foundation that continually glorifies God we as teachers must incorporate Jesus’ teachings into every aspect of our day. We must set the example by being steady in our speech and confident in our expectations of the students to follow Christ. By using positive speech and putting others before ourselves, being conscience of our imperfect nature and slow to judge we can set a good example for our students each day.
