4 Classic Christmas Cookies

We love the classics here at Busy Bees. Today we're sharing 4 classic Christmas cookies. There are all sorts of TikToks and Reels with new "cookie hacks" but we're sticking with the tried and true classics that everyone has loved for years.

These classic recipes are ones I don't even have to look up online: I can take the card out of my old fashioned recipe book that holds my family favorites. Enjoy these 4 classic Christmas cookie recipes this Christmas season: 

Classic Sugar Cookies 

Classic Sugar Cookie Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 and 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1.5 sticks of butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

Directions: 

  1. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in one bowl.
  2. In the bowl of your stand mixer beat the butter and sugar together smooth and creamy.
  3. Next add in the egg and vanilla extract. Beat for another minute or two.
  4. Next add the bowl with the dry ingredients to the butter/sugar mix and mix on low until a dough forms.
  5. Place the dough in saran wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  6. Once the dough is chilled, dust your surface with flour and roll out the dough.
  7. Use cookie cutters to make Christmas shapes.
  8. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
  9. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
  10. Let cool completely and then decorate!

For the icing: Mix two cups of confectioners sugar, 1 tsp of vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons of milk with a whisk. Add food coloring if you want festive colors! 

Chocolate Chip Cookies 

Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Directions: 

  1. Pre heat over to 350 degrees
  2. Place butter and both sugars in a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs and vanilla
  4. Stir in flour, salt & baking soda 
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips 
  6. Place on a cookie sheet in 1 inch balls and bake for 10 minutes 

Peanut Butter Blossom

Ingredients:

  • About 40 unwrapped Hershey Kisses
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar (plus extra for rolling)
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2cup of butter(softened) 
  • egg
  • 1.5 cups of flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Directions:

  1. Pre heat oven to 375°F
  2. Beat together the granulated sugar, the brown sugar, peanut butter, butter & egg well blended.
  3. Add in the flour, baking soda and baking powder & mix into a dough
  4. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls and then roll each ball in the extra sugar 
  5. Bake for 8 minutes 
  6. Take out of the oven and press a Hersey Kiss into each ball

Gingerbread Cookies 

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup unsulfured molasses
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Directions: 

  1. Mix together flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, cloves, salt and nutmeg. 
  2. In a separate bowl beat the butter and sugar together fluffy.
  3. Mix in the egg, molasses and vanilla until combined. 
  4. Next add in the flour. Mix.
  5. Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour 
  6. Once the dough is chilled, roll it out on a floured surface and use cookie cutters to make gingerbread shapes. 
  7. Preheat the oven to 250 while you are cutting the cookies.
  8. Bake for 8 minutes. Once cool decorate them as you wish.
